If the ads for this year's Super Bowl are any indication, men are tired of 'losing their manhood' and are looking for anything (to buy) in order to reclaim it.
In an ad for the Dodge Charger entitled, "Man's Last Stand", after listing all the things they do for their women like "I will put the seat down" and "I will watch your vampire tv shows with you", the narrator says "and because I do this, I will drive the car I want to drive."
The ad for FLO TV's mobile TV device has CBS sports announcer Jim Nance walking through a lingerie section of a department store observing a young couple shopping when he says, "as you can see, his girlfriend has removed his spine rendering him unable to watch the game." And later, "change out of that skirt Jason."
Bridgestone tires probably raised some eyebrows with "Your Tires or Your Life", where in a futuristic world a man comes screeching up to a road block where the demand is made. The man misunderstands and kicks his wife out of the car and roars away on his precious tires.
And Dockers dropped trow with it's "Men Without Pants" ad with two dozen pantless men singing "I wear no pants!" and corresponding "WEAR THE PANTS" marketing campaign.
Is the two to three decades of media male bashing both in academic and entertainment circles finally starting to boil over? Madison Avenue seems to think so.
